Last year 12 of our Music students had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Beijing in order to participate in the Tutti World Music Festival. Apart from the privilege of participating in this festival, they also had the opportunity to attend a number of master classes by the world’s top musicians.
This year, it is the turn of Cape Town to host our Chinese guests, and on Monday 6 Februarya number of our students attended the opening of the South Africa-China Youth Arts Festival at Bergvliet High School from 16:00 – 18:00.
The event opened with the singing of the South African National anthem and thereafter, the Chinese National Anthem, rousing a great sense cultural and national pride amongst the audience.
Performances by Heathfield High Jazz Band, Bergvliet High Jazz Band and Alexander Synton Jazz Band supported the splendid performance of the Beijing Dahongmen Youth Wind Ensemble and the Xi’an Tie Yi High School Student Wind Orchestra who played various Chinese traditional pieces as well as standard windband repertoire.
Seeing the many different nationalities come together under the same roof to speak a universal musical language and share culture freely with one another was superb!
We were able to take this video footage of our visitors!
