Cape Town Eisteddfod – Choir and Vocal Ensemble

Cape Town Eisteddfod 2012

Having just emerged from examinations, there had not been extended periods to rehearse. Despite this, the choir’s performance could not have been better! Members were both excited and anxious  as they moved onto the platforms to perform “Venite Adoremus” and “Since you’ve been Gone”. Both performances went smoothly and we were delighted when the adjudicator described the performance as “outstanding” We were commended on a well presented programme, good balance between the voice groups, our intonation and crisp rhythms. We were awarded a Diploma.

The Vocal Ensemble was set to perform “El Grillo” by Josquin Prés and “Bella Finals” by Ed Boyer, Ben Bram and Deke Sharon at 17:00. We were delighted to hear that they also received a Diploma, and adjudicators commented on the group’s “excellent workmanship.” The level of difficulty was described as “well varied”, and there being “good intonation throughout”. The handling of the modulation in El Grillo was described as being done “extremely well” and Georgia Bailey’s performance in Bella Finals was singled out for particular commendation. Members had a lot of fun, and there were laughs all round. The performance was very enthusiastically received and applauded

There is little doubt that under the inspired leadership of Mrs van Bergen the schools’ choir and vocal ensemble held Wynberg Girls’ flag high.
