One of the highlights for the Ubuntu Society is hosting a cultural evening and it is an occasion into which months of planning and rehearsing go. The theme this year was “This is New Africa” and it was not only an evening of fabulous entertainment, it also spoke of a number of ¬†serious issues facing society today. Long after the guest had departed our hall, thoughts about our responsibility in a troubled society lingered.

The evening started with an unforgettable performance of “Afrophobia” Monesha Marmwidze and a haunting interpretaion of ¬†“Asimbonanga” by our Ubuntu Society. We were treated to performances by Groote Schuur High School, Langa High School, Rustenburg Girls’ High School, Wynberg Boys’ High School and our very talented Ubuntu, Marimba and Dance societies.

Part of what we were able to celebrate was a rich variety of perfomances from traditional to contemporary forms of dance and song. Overall it was an extremely successful evening. We are grateful to Mrs Gordana who helped us to realise our dreams in hosting this event.
