Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there!  - Will Rogers
Life Orientation is the study of self in relation to others and to society. As such it encourages learners to take a critical look at themselves and the world around them and empowers them to make informed decisions about life.
It is a multi-faceted subject, drawing on many disciplines such as Psychology, Sociology and Human Movement Studies. The main focus areas are: personal development, social and environmental development, career skills and development and physical education. This subject provides learners with essential life skills ranging from making informed decisions around personal boundries and goal setting to learning how to write a professional CV and how to conduct oneself in a job interview. Through the physical education programme learners are exposed to a variety of sporting codes and encouraged to make exercise part of their lifestyles.
Assessment in Life Orientation consists mainly of school based assessment and not examinations and tests.
