“The lives of children and young people are increasingly shaped by what happens in other parts of the world. Education for Global Citizenship gives them the knowledge, understanding, skills and values that they need if they are to participate fully in ensuring their own, and others’, well-being and to make a positive contribution, both locally and globally.” Oxfam’s Education for Global Citizenship: A Guide for Schools
This society provides learners with a unique opportunity for schools to promote interactive learning, global citizenship and life-skills.
Wynberg Girls’ High is linked with Devonport School for Girls, a school in the United Kingdom, and Zimasa Community School in Langa. The programme aims to allow teachers and learners to learn from each others cultures, to forge new friendships and in so doing to gain new perspectives on life. The society meets on Tuesday afternoons from 2-3pm in the Life Skills room.
