Badminton

Badminton has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the mid 1800’s where it was created 1st by the British Military Officers stationed in India. Formerly known as Poona, it was later renamed, Badminton.

Badminton is known an Olympic sport played on the world stage, with players hitting the shuttle in excess of 300km/hr, which is why Badminton is the fastest racket sport in the world.

At Wynberg we may not be hitting the 200km/hr mark yet, however the enthusiasm particularly amongst the social group has grown exponentially. There is now a squad of girls who represent Wynberg Girls’ High School, playing weekly fixtures against other Western Cape Schools.
