A lesson in self-defence

Earlier in the year, Interact hosted an anti-rape awareness talk with the Interactors. They girls spoke candidly about their response to the statistics and stories regarding rape. What became alarmingly apparent was that many of our young women do not know how to defend themselves in a potentially dangerous situation.

On 20 May, Interact hosted a self-defence class in the hope of equipping our Interactors with skills to protect themselves in the future. The Interact session, which is during a week  exams begin are usually bonding sessions for the girls. The class which was presented by three Grade 10s, Saleehah Domingo, Janisha Parbhoo and Yumna Isaac, who are professionals in Karate taught all of us some very valuable skills.
