On the 5th of September 30 of our Grade Eights and Nines wrote the Junior Afrikaans Olympiad for First Addtional Language speakers.  They are tested on a whole range of things, from comprehension to grammar, covering different texts: prose, poetry, cartoons, advertisements. The moral of the story is, of course, that they should read widely to improve all these skills – comprehension as well as grammar. The Olympiad consists of 100 multiple choice questions on the different texts.
In May, 37 of our girls in Grades Ten to Twelve participated in the Senior Afrikaans Olimpiade for First Additional Language learners and have done us proud. Two of our learners, Kate Bell (87%, joint 4th) and Raeesah Bray (85%, joint 8th), both in grade 12, were placed in the top 20 in the Western Cape and also in the top 100 in the country out of a total of 3897 learners.
We look forward to even more entries and results next year.
