All Girls’ Schools National Festival – Public Speaking

This year two of our girls entered the public speaking category in the All Girls’ Schools’ National Festival. Competing against 11 different schools, ¬†Stacey Goliath in Grade 11 and Rebekah Nathan in Grade 12 were both superb ambassadors for our school.

Rebekah and Stacey - Public Speaking

Every entrant was required to present a prepared reading (6-8 minutes), a prepared speech (5-7 minutes) an impromptu speech (2-3 minutes with 10 minutes preparation time) and a forum discussion – where they were linked with participants from other schools. Each section was adjudicated by three adjudicators each of whom rated and commented on the competitor. Wynberg was the only school which had finalists in two categories – and both Stacey and Rebekah achieved this. Because they made it into the finals in two categories, they were in fact independently rated and ranked by 6 adjudicators – the chair of whom was an World Public Speaker Adjudicator.

Public Speaking Scoring 101

While Stacey achieved the rating of the best Impromptu Speaker at the festival, Rebekah was the overall winner at the Festival. Both achieved an average ranking of more than 90% or more in each of the divisions. We salute their efforts.
