Athena Society – First meeting in 2015

The Athena Society got off to an exciting start with a wonderful tea on Wednesday, 10 March. The members, the top 12 academic achievers in each grade, were welcomed and congratulated by Mr Burrell, the society’s liaison teacher.

The tea involved an insightful presentation by our Head of Academics for 2015, Nicole Wentzel. Nicole delighted everyone with stories from her trips to the Kalahari Desert where she and her mother, along with some others did research for the Kgalagadi Leopard Project. This project involves observing leopards, compiling data of their numbers, movements and behaviour through people sending in photos and commenting on an online forum, and is hugely beneficial to the park’s studies.

Mr Burrell revved everyone up for the exciting events coming up, which include a presentation from NASA’s chief scientist and a trip to see La Traviata at the theatre. After a quick group photo, everyone tucked into some delicious treats and refreshments.  The society looks forward to a year full of interesting and enriching events planned by its super enthusiastic leaders!
