Mr Richardson was not wrong when he mentioned that at this time of the year, most organisations wind down, but in schools there is generally a winding up to a climactic and triumphant end to what is always a very full year. In amongst papers and marking, and report discussions and the generating of reports, one of those moments is the annual Campus of Schools’ Carol Service which this year was astonishingly simple and beautiful carol service. Held at St John’s Church, Wynberg, this year, it was organised by Wynberg Boys’ High School.

Beginning with a young boy’s solo performance of the first verse of ”Once in Royal David’s City” and ending with a soaring performance of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from the Messiah by the mass choir, there could have been very few who did not leave the church profoundly moved and filled with joy and hope which the Christmas message brings.

Thanks are due to performers and all those involved in the training of the various choirs and ensembles. All sang beautifully – a fitting end to a year of musical excellence.
