Carin DonsonCarin Donson was recently accepted for the South African National Youth Orchestra’s summer course from the 7th to the 17th of December 2017.  Just yesterday, we heard that not only was she accepted, but that she had been given a full bursary to attend the course.

The South African National Youth Orchestra describes itself as “the leader of the youth orchestral movement in the country, inspiring young musicians to pursue the highest standards of musical performance. The South African National Youth Orchestra is recognised for promoting successful careers for internationally acclaimed musicians and the National Youth Orchestra has performed on international platforms (Scotland, France, Israel, Germany and Russia) as well as across South Africa, in major centres as well as making sure to perform in places normally neglected by symphony orchestras. They have also had appearances on major news networks such as the BBC, Sky News and CNN. The Foundation holds courses around the country with tutelage by some of South Africa’s best teachers, and with international conductors such as Alberto Bolet, Sir Roger Norrington, Bernhard Gueller, Gerard Korsten, Omri Hadari, Alexander Rahbari, Conrad van Alphen, and Laszlo Marosi on the podium.

During the course, they will be working towards concerts, and the main works  practised will be Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Fourth Symphony and Stravinky’s neo classical Pulcinella Suite. These concerts will be on the 14th of December at the Rand Club in Johannesburg and the 15th of December at the ZK Matthews Hall, Unisa, Pretoria.
