Valentine’s Day 2017 – what a cause for excitement! This special day was jam packed with wonderful Wynberg spirit – the spirit of love.

The students were delighted to discover that Valentine’s Day would result in a civvies day and everyone went all out and dressed in every shade of red, pink and white imaginable. The Matrics took it a step further and dressed up, adding Valentine’s-themed tutus, glitter and sequins to their outfits. But this was only the beginning of all of the excitement!

Throughout the day, roses were exchanged between friends and behind the scenes, the School Council prepared for the exchange of roses with some of the surrounding schools as well as their annual Valentine’s Assembly. It was a busy day for al and with shortened lessons, roses and a special assembly to look forward to at the end of the day, it was difficult for learners to take their minds off of all of the Valentine’s festivities.

Finally, the time came for the real fun to begin. The School Council started off their assembly with a skit and proceeded to show a number of humorous videos that they had put together. There was plenty of laughter to be heard and in between, the names of the girls receiving roses from other schools were called out. But the day could not end without a special message from a few of Wynberg’s friends.

In a short video, Riaz Orrie, a Wynberg Boys’ Youtuber as well as Mrs Opperman, a much-loved teacher whom we said goodbye to last year and Sven Ruygrok, who played Rambo in the movie Spud, shared a message with all of the Wynberg Girl’s. In their video, they explained that you don’t need a rose to feel special on Valentine’s day and that each and every girl should feel loved and appreciated, no matter what day of the year.

“There are many different types of beautiful, and you’re one of them,” was one of the messages Riaz shared with the girls.

Finally, to bring an end to a day full of love and laughter, the Valentine’s Assembly was concluded with a hilarious video of a few of the teachers singing the lyrics to Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” in a special version of Carpool Karaoke.

All in all, Wynberg had a Wonderful Valentine’s Day!
