Consumer Studies Exams

The Grade 12 Consumer Studies Practical Exams have come to an end this week.

The learners had two practical exams. Practical number 1 was their recipes based on the Matric Entrepreneurship Project done in the first term. Here the learners could be creative preparing their favourite recipes to be judged by Ms Witthuhn. One of the main criteria being the marketability of their finished and packaged products.

The second practical required them to make Eclairs, and either a Cinnamon Pecan Blondie, a Coconut Blondie or a Brownie. The eclairs could be decorated with a Salted Caramel Patisserie, White Chocolate Ganache & Orange Patisserie or Toasted Hazelnut Patisserie.

They were then marked on their eclairs, the patisserie, their baking, piping and advanced garnishing amongst other things. The learners were encouraged to use their imagination when it came to decorating their eclairs. They were encouraged to try things like caramelised spun sugar, honeycomb, crystallised orange and lemon slices, fondant flowers, sugared rose petals.
