Saturday 30 September

We all said our last goodbyes and left our host families after two nights. It was my birthday today and I was extremely fortunate to get spoilt by my host family at breakfast. Not to mention the fact that they had stayed up until it was 12 to sing to me. We then met at the HC Haarlem at 10 to depart to Utrecht in a coach. The drive wasn’t long. In Utrecht, we stayed in the Stayokay which at first we had trouble finding, but thanks to google maps, it saved us any more walking.

Our first of two activities were climbing the tallest building in Holland, the Domtorren. It was a tough hundreds of steps all the way up but was truly worth the ‘calf workout’. We all then made our way to our second activity which was canoeing through the canals. We paired up and had tremendous fun. My arms we completely sore after about an hour and a bit of canoeing but once again, it was worth it. We made our way back to the stayokay for supper past 7.

This wasn’t the end of an adventurous day yet: the night was definitely young. We all went to the arcade to play games. Our team had so much fun collecting over 3000 tickets, completely thrashing the games.
It was truly an amazing experience to have my 17th birthday in another country with people that mean the most to me. It was a day I’ll never forget filled with so many memories.
