1st Team
The Wynberg First Team approached this game with greater determination than ever to find their first league win. We worked hard to implement all the tactical play practiced during the week. We started off a little nervously, and as a result had a penalty corner against us early in the game. However, our defence remained resolute, and we picked up the pace of the game and started building up more attacking opportunities. We had so many chances on the attacking goal line, but somehow Bellville kept us out. The right-side build-up play between Amina Williams, Aaminah Domingo, Katherine Nicholls and Aalliah Dollie was exceptional, and provided some exciting hockey. Our vice captain, birthday girl Amber-Rose Bailey, played purposefully and with the dogged defence of our goalkeeper, Sisipho Dingeni denied Bellville any opportunity to get ahead in the game. The attacking team were relentless and resolute in their efforts to score,  and in the last 20 seconds of the game, Katherine Nicholls used her top tennis skills and volleyed an aerial ball into the back of the net. Thank you to Jade de Villiers who helped the First Team out today. The team are super proud of this win and we hope that it will be the start of a few more goals and a few more wins!

U16A Team
Today the girls played with courage and loads of heart throughout the game as we were keen to get a win. Michelle Boshoff scored early in the game, to put us ahead. Despite our best efforts, we could not put anymore in the back of the net, but our defence made sure we held onto our lead to finish 1-0 up.

u14A Team
On the 27 May, Wynberg’s U14 A team played against Bellville’s U14 A team.  Despite the pouring rain, Wynberg managed to set up two goals within the first half – the two responsible for these goals were Zuhaa Abader and Kira Hofmeyer. We continued to work hard, and our persistence and determination paid off as we scored another two goals in the second half. Kira Hofmeyer scored the first of these and Skye Murray scored our final goal with a ‘P-flick’. With an end score of 4-1, we successfully managed to take our second victory of the season.  we hope to have many more. “Players of the Match” were Zuhaa Abader and Kira Hofmeyer.

2nd Team
On Saturday morning, the 2nd team hockey played a tight match against Bellville High School. It was raining earlier in the morning, but luckily it had cleared up in time for our match. It was a hard fought game, but Bellville managed to score a goal in the first half and hung onto this lead, despite our team having many chances to equalise. Despite the disappointing result, it was definitely the best game of hockey we have played this season. Everyone in the team played arduously and there were huge improvements in our game. There were some great passes and some very close shots on goal. We had SO many opportunities, but we were just not able to convert them into goals. This is something that we need to work on. Despite that, it was a tense, exciting and enjoyable game of hockey. The team should be extremely proud of the way they played and hopefully next week we can convert our opportunities into some well-earned goals

Hockey 2nd team

3rd Team
The third team earned their first win of the season – beating their opposition 1-0. The game was a stunner as the communication and awareness improved tenfold compared to the previous two matches. Special mentions include Joy Espach for brilliant pieces of defending throughout the game; Britt Gutuza for scoring the winning goal and the defence as a whole for keeping a clean sheet despite countless short corners being conceded. Our girls are training hard in preparation for the next round of fixtures!

u14B Team
On the 27 May, the morning of a rainy day, Wynberg’s U14B team played against the U14B side of Bellville High School. Our girls played exceptionally well and achieved a victory of 4-0. Well done to Caylin O Kelly, Corina Austin and Danielle van Wyk, as well as our defensive squad, who blocked the opposing team from even reaching our goals. We look forward to a successful and winning season.

u16B Team
Our recent game against Bellville was both exciting and excellent, and we were thrilled with our 2-0 win. We played really well and put in a 100% team effort. A mention must go out to Chloe Botha, who came up from the ‘C’ team to play for us and scored our very first goal of the match. “Player of the Match” was awarded to Alyssa Isaacs, who played with great skill and precision and scored the second goal. We persevered throughout the game and great plays were made by both Chelsea de Reuck and Malikah Noordien, who played for us this week from the C side. Kelly Blake, Sweeva Wiid, Justine Meyer and Mia Grace all played brilliantly in their positions and contributed to this win.

Overall our hard work at improving on our mistakes, accomplishing set goals and maintaining a positive spirit has earned us a well-deserved win and we can say this was our greatest match of the season thus far.

u16D Team
Today’s game brought an unfortunate loss for the u16D team against the Sans Souci U16A team. The final score was 3-0, but some good lessons could be learnt from the game. Communication and passing are factors that need to be worked on, as well as teamwork and fitness. San Souci’s attack showed that our defence needs to focus on some key technical skills.
