Dinner and cross-cultural event with Chatham Hall

Wynberg Girls’ High School was invited to host a dinner and cross-cultural evening for Chatham Hall who left Washington on 9 March and have been involved in a number of service projects for the time that they are in South Africa.

Considerable thought is given to the evening by the Head of Culture – Rachel Suttle – to make the evening a memorable one. Entertainment lined up for the evening included performances from our Vocal Ensemble, our Senior Marimba Band, the Ubuntu Choir and the Wynberg Boys’ High Gumboot Dancers. The performance was followed by a quick workshop on gumboot dancing and a competition between the girls who were divided into three teams.

There is nothing like a little high energy dancing to get the adrenalin going and the conversation flowing as dinner was shared. After dinner, a little haute courture was introduced as Rachel supplied our guests with materials to design and create a fashion rooted in Africa.

It was an enormously enjoyable evening – indicated in no small way by the laughter, the exchange of stories and our guests’ reluctance to go home.
