Soaring Sounds on a Wintery Evening

At 6 o’ clock, when one might have expected the traffic to be departing from Wynberg Girls’ High, a number of cars remained in the car park and a steady stream drove in through the gates. The occasion? A rich and varied programme of music performed by our various ensembles. Before the  performances began, the audience was invited to enjoy a quick cup of tea or coffee served by our marvellous Occasions Team.

After being welcomed by Carla Stokes, 2014 Head of Music, the event was opened by some rousing performances from our Marimba Bands. Tightly organized,  extremely well planned and with movement of instruments cut to a minimum, the music flowed, soared, warmed hearts and delighted as we listened to performances from our Orchestra, Flute, String, Baroque, Guitar, Saxophone and Clarinet Ensembles. The evening ended with the Jazz Band’s Fever, with lead singer, Robyn Williams and a number of performances from a duo,  trio and our Vocal Ensemble. Many of these groupings have enjoyed considerable success in music competitions, the Tygerberg and Cape Town Eisteddfods, receiving Diplomas and various awards, and the performances we enjoyed at this event established precisely why. Bravo, Wynberg girls and their teachers! Well done!
