FACETS competition – Wynberg placed 1st and 2nd!

Last night, 16 April, two of our Ensembles participated in the Sans Souci FACETS (Festival of Arts, Culture, Exhibitions, Technology and Science) competition. Competing in the High Schools’ Ensembles category, we were delighted when adjudicator Alistair McDonald awarded our Flute Ensemble first prize, and our Junior Marimba Band second prize.

He described our Flute ensemble as a “choir of flutes”, producing “the most delightful sounds”, and our Marimba Band as offering “a spirited performance” and having “excellent  energy and spark”.

Performing in this competition for the first time, the Flute Ensemble performed three pieces: Moon River, by Henry Mancini, arranged by James Christensen; Colonel  Bogey by Kenneth J Alford, arranged by Frank J Halferty and Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, arranged by M Berden. Our Marimba band performed Save the World by Swedish House Mafia, arranged by Ross Johnson and The Click Song arranged by the same.

Huge congratulations to our performers and Brigitte Franke  and Kiara Ramklass, conductors of the Flute Ensemble and Marimba Band respectively.
