A’lia Mohedeen is representing South Africa as part of the Face/Faith to Faith Program. The year-long programme is a multi-faith youth leadership programme that takes place annually with Jewish, Muslim and Christian teenagers from the USA, Northern Ireland, South Africa and the Middle East. The programme encourages teenagers to discuss and take part in interactive activities relating to issues of peace, violence and social responsibility.

The programme begins with a 2 week intensive summer programme at a residential camp facility in New York and aims to “enhance the participants’ knowledge and understanding of their own faith and traditions; understand other religions, cultures and people; inform participants about the call of religious teachings to engage in public and world issues; and increase participants’ ability to collaborate across lines of religion, culture, class and ethnicity to make a better world”

A’lia applied by writing a maximum of 5 pages about why she would be a good candidate for the programme and what leadership abilities she has. She recently attended a meeting/workshop to discuss the programme and is looking forward to her trip to New York and what she will learn and achieve during this amazing opportunity.
