Founders Day 2014

This year Wynberg Girls’ High School celebrated our 130th year anniversary. Throughout the course of this week, we have been focusing on the history of Wynberg and remembering those who have come before us. As with every year, there was pride in the staff and learners as we stood to sing our National Anthem and School Song.

During our assembly the matrics of 2014 were awarded  life membership of the Wynberg Old Girls Union. We had both  the High school choir and Junior School Vocal Ensemble perform for us, displaying their talent and the pride in their school. We were privileged to have a Wynberg Old Girl be our guest speaker for the day, who revealed just how much Wynberg Girls’ High has changed and developed. We were able to hear some of her best memories and of the amazing times spent with her friends at our school. She emphasized our great motto “Honour before Honours” and made us realise how great our school is. She certainly reminded us of the fact that the friends that you make at Wynberg will be the friends that you keep for life.

Our U14A hockey team then played the Wynberg Girls’ Junior U13As . Both teams showed great spirit and enthusiasm whilst playing, but it was the U14A team who prevailed with a 4-0 victory. This event was very well supported by all of the girls. Led by the Spirit Team and School Council , the girls cheered and supported their fellow students. At the end of the match, the girls were surrounded by admiring supporters who continued to cheer them long after the final whistle.
