On Wednesday the 1st of February there was frenzy of excitement amongst the Grade 11’s as we left to Rocklands for our Leadership Camp.
After being warmly greeted by the staff at Rocklands Camp site we dispersed into our assigned rooms where the excitement bubbled up once more. We were blessed with sunshine and an amazing views of the sea, mountain and fields upon fields of beautiful flowers.
Then our thinking caps were required: how could we better our inner-leadership skills and discover new ones. We were presented with talks and were assigned special activities to improve skills in Conflict Management, Stress, How To Be a Leader, Work shadow, Team Work and perhaps most importantly how to accept and rely on each other’s strengths and counteract weaknesses.
There is little doubt that this camp served to deepen relationships and strengthen the bond already existing between us – we are Wynberg sisters.
Special thanks go to our wonderful teachers who camped with or ran workshops for us: Mrs Harding, Mr Saayman, Ms Keagan, Mr Bodenstein, Mrs Freed, Mrs Smith, Elise and Ms de Mink. We are hugely appreciative of the fact that they gave their time and energy to teach us valuable lessons and for their willingness to supervise 188 teenage girls. (They must be super heroes!)
Max DePree’s words: “The first responsibility of a Leader is to define reality. The last is to say Thank You. In between, the Leader is a servant” for me sums up much of what I have learnt.

Lerato Mokobe said the following:
It felt as if the day would never arrive .
Over packed luggage … emotions running high … excitement … nervousness.
At last the start: the hall was jam-packed with all grade 11′s for a fabulous experience of learning to listen and to lead  - African sounds, make music together – a drumming session.
Discover Yourself was the theme of this year’s leadership camp.  There were challenging music quizzes, obstacle courses, exercises in team work, problem-solving exercises.  Pressure ran high when it was time to create and perform houseplays: the creativity and focus were evident in the results.
The camp not only taught us about leadership but it made us understand ourselves a little better, and encouraged us to think a little more deeply about what we wanted for our school. Friendship were forged and consolidated. Â Grade 11 camp is one experience that we will continue drawing from.
