Hockey girls buzzing at the sight of the SA Women’s’ Hockey team

On Monday,  22nd February the South African Women’s Hockey team had lunch at the Waterloo Hostel. It was evident that they had enjoyed their meal, because almost every conversation that the girls had with the SA stars included a comment about how delicious their lunch was! For us, the real ice breaker was actually singing “Happy Birthday” to the South African captain, Nicolene Terblanche. Amongst these talented hockey players were two Wynberg Old Girls, Candice Manuel and Quinita Bobbs. Both Candice and Quinita shared many stories of when they were at Wynberg and how things have changed since they were last at our school. These conversations definitely sparked an interest in all of the girls who were present, and both the SA team as well as the Wynberg pupils took full advantage of this opportunity.

We were extraordinarily privileged to meet our favourite hockey stars as well as being able to ask them questions about what it’s like to play for their country and in an international set up. The South African Women’s Hockey team is definitely a place that many young talented hockey players would aspire to be a part of, and with hard work and dedication that dream can become a reality.

We thank the Women’s team for taking time out of their day off to come andvisit our school. It’s always a pleasure having them here, as well as well as seeing our Wynberg Old Girls representing our country.

The Women’s team are playing in a Summer Series against Scotland, Germany and India. They would really appreciate the support, so get down to Hartleyvale hockey stadium and back our girls!
