1st Team

On Saturday the 29th of August Wynberg played hockey against Fairmont. The weather was great to play in and the teams ran their hearts out, giving it their all.

The first team had a tough match and their passion could truly be seen on the field. The team kept composed and managed to score the first goal of the match. The goal had an amazing build up, showing that sometimes you have to go out to go back in. The team passed the ball from the chaos zone in the circle to their teammates outside the circle and they came back in strong, scoring a goal. The goal was scored by Amina Williams. Unfortunately however, Fairmont came back with a goal, equalising the score. The final score of the match was 1-1.Wynberg had great possession throughout the game and made great passes and shots at goal. The player of the match went to Stephanie Lopes-Stuart, who made intelligent decisions throughout and played a passionate game of hockey. This match was the team’s last league game and although they didn’t get their desired win, they played well and hope to strike back with goals against their opposition at inter-schools. The team will be working hard in these next two weeks, preceding inter-schools, to build up their game to come out on top with their game of passionate hockey.

The U16B’s ended off a great season with a win against Fairmont High School . It was a tough match but Jenna Featherstone had an incredible goal in the first half to put Wynberg in the lead. Despite lots of running and many opportunities at goals, Fairmont’s defence put up a good fight. The match was won 1-0. Well done to all players involved especially Aneeqah Davids and Jenna Featherstone who were both awarded player of the match.

The U16 D hockey team played a match against Westerford on Saturday 29 August 2015.  They beat Westerford 1:0 with a beautiful goal scored by Nuraan Marlie and Sam Martin while working together.  The whole team worked together to stop the opposing team from scoring a goal.  With only one loss this season, the final game ended on a high note. Great team and great fun!

Well done U16 D for your victory and the brilliant season.

The U14A hockey Team lost 2-1 to Fairmont on Saturday 28 August. The game started, and we were clearly not yet on the field. Within the first five minutes we were 2-0 down. Unfortunately this meant we were always chasing the game. Ten minutes into the first half we arrived and started playing some lovely hockey. We created many scoring opportunities – just couldn’t quite get it into the goals. The second half saw more of the same as we pushed forward, putting pressure on the opposition. Tatum Knipe scored a great goal near the end, but unfortunately that is how the game ended. The girls learnt a lesson on how important focus is at the start of the game, but can also be complimented on their fighting spirit.
