1st Team Hockey

Rustenburg scored early in the game, taking advantage of a lapse in focus from the Wynberg team. As soon as they switched on, Wynberg dominated possession and looked as if they could score at any moment. Unfortunately the Wynberg team just could not take advantage of their opportunities, 7 short corners for and none against. The midfield are to be commended on their solid build up and creation of scoring opportunities. The defence was solid and Chelsea Manoek earns a mention as the top player of the game for pulling off big tackles and creating a number of exciting counterattacks. The young attacking line ran hard and are learning with each game.

2nd Team Hockey

The 2nd team game on Saturday was  evenly matched with us drawing with Rustenburg 1-1. As a team, we have improved with teamwork and passing, but still could work on our communication. Tamsyn, who scored the goal, and Vikky, our  amazing goalie who saved a few could-have-been-a-goal goals, are the Women of the Match on Saturday.

U16A Hockey

Wynberg took on a determined Settlers high team on Saturday morning. After putting them under pressure, Wynberg opened the scoring with a goal from Demi Steenkamp from a short corner which had gone wrong. In the second half, Wynberg stuck to their game plan and worked much better as a unit. Settlers had a few opportunities to level the score but the defense held strong and denied them their opportunities. With about 10 minutes to play, Wynberg put together a beautiful set of passes down the right hand side of the field, the movement was ended off by Dani Graney who put the ball into the back of the box, making the final score 2-0.

U16B Hockey

The Wynberg U16B team played against Rustenburg U16A team. Unfortunately, we were not really a match for the Rustenburg ‘A’ team. The girls played their hearts out and never gave up, but eventually went down 9-0. Although we defended most of the match, we did have one or two chances, making sure Rustenburg did not have it all their own way. Saarah Smith was the player of the match. Her defensive skills were tested and she had a superb game.

U16C Hockey

WGHS u16C lost 6-0 to Rustenberg on Saturday morning

U16D Hockey

The U16D played a tough game against a stronger opponent.  The girls played well throughout the game and stayed positive despite a loss of 4-1.  Goal scored by Jess Stephens.

u14B Hockey

U14B lost 2-1. Jamie-lee Crowie scored the goal.

U14C Hockey

U14C hockey played at Westerford last week.  They lost narrowly by 1-0.
