The Wynberg Junior Hockey teams played against Perse, out from the UK.

A more beautiful day could not have been asked for as our English opponents and us took to the turf. Against the backdrop of the gorgeous mountain the U16s did a good job and holding their own and in what seemed like a chaotic shuffle in the goalbox, captain and vice-captain had a tag-team effort to put the ball in the box.

The game ended with a 1 – 0 win for Wynberg.

The game started well for Wynberg and they dominated proceedings against the touring UK side. The U14As scored an early goal and it looked as if they were going to run away with the game until the Perse team found their feet and equalised. The Wynberg team dug in their heels and put themselves in the lead again in the 2nd half. They looked like they were going to hold their lead until an unfortunate umpiring error at a defensive short corner resulted in the equaliser from Perse against an unprepared defensive team. All in all, a fun day at the office .

The game was played on a beautiful winter’s day with sunshine and warm weather. It was an evenly contested fixture between the two teams and ended in a 1-1 draw. Wynberg held the lead from early in the game but were not able to convert many of their opportunities. And in the last 30 seconds of the game, Perse managed to slot in their equaliser.
