3rd Team vs Fairmont 3rds

Wynberg 1 – Fairmont 3

In the first game of the season on Wednesday 28 January, Wynberg girls came out in full force against Fairmont High. The opposition had the advantage of a home game, scoring two goals in the first half and a third early into the second half.  Wynberg Girls however did not back down in their defence. With just a few minutes left on the clock, Lutho Sidzumo scored the final goal of the match, settling the score at 3-1.

On the whole Wynberg Girls’ High’s third team played a strong game and are looking forward to a good season

Second team vs Fairmont 2nd

Wynberg 2 – Fairmont 1

This was our first game of the new year and with only one practice under the belt, the girls were a little nervous. Wynberg started with a strong attack and forced a corner in the early stages of the game. Although this did not result in a goal, the players gained confidence and we carried on attacking which soon paid off with a fantastic goal from Tamsyn Gaynor that put Wynberg in the lead.

Fairmont fought back but the Wynberg team held steady and after a quick counter attack, we were very unlucky not to convert a corner thanks to a brilliant save by the Fairmont goalie.

After much attacking and great defending, we broke through their defences and Amber-Rose Bailey scored goal number two for Wynberg. O-2 to us.

In the last few minutes of the game, Fairmont turned it up and notch and converted a shot at goal. the final minutes of the game were frantic but Wynberg managed to hold on and win the game 2-1. Great performances from all players and well-led by their captain, Chelsea Manoek. Well done ladies.

First team vs Fairmont 1st

Wynberg 3 – Fairmont 1

This game promised to be high-paced and full of energy and the players certainly obliged. Fairmont came firing out of the blocks and after much back and forth, Wynberg force the short corner for captain, Stephanie Lopes-Stuart to slam home the first goal. Wynberg lead 1-1.

Both teams played great hockey to earn a number of short corners but neither side can convert, as Indoor Hockey Captain and goalkeeper, Valeshka Harkhu keeps the Fairmont team out of the Wynberg goals.

The short corner team work some magic and cause disarray in the Fairmont defence, setting Steph up to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Wynberg team continue to play at break-neck pace, overwhelming the Fairmont players. Steph grabs an opportunity to score a great hat trick goal to take her team into a 3-0 lead.

In the final 3 minutes, Fairmont take off their goalkeeper and manage to take advantage of a lapse in Wynberg concentration and score their 1st goal. This throws the teams’ balance a little and Fairmont, smelling blood, capitalise and score a second goal. As the clock ticks down, Wynberg close up their defences and keep the Fairmont players out, with Vee pulling off a match-saving slide tackle on top D to ensure the team holds on for a 3-2 win.

Solid performance by all the players with some dazzling skills on display from Logan Patel. An exciting game all round.
