1st team

Herschel got off to a strong start breaking through the Wynberg defences scoring two quick goals.  Wynberg fought back to get a short counter from which Sasha Sivertsen score a fantastic goal drag flick, 1-2 to Herschel.

Both teams fight really hard to get the advantage with Wynberg defending well and Valeshka Harkhu keeping like a champion. Unfortunately Herschel snuck in a goal after being awarded a shorty.

Wynberg worked hard on attacking and trying to level the game and their perseverance paid off with a shorty, which led to another brilliant drag flick goal from Sasha to keep Wynberg in the running.

With the clock winding down Ms Winds took off our goalkeeper to gamble on an all of nothing approach which resulted in a Wynberg earning the last short corner of the match. As the audience watched with bated breath, the short corner went straight at the Herschel keepers pads and deflected out. Wynberg lost 2-3, but everyone was commended on their never-say-die attitude and fighting spirit.

Players of the game: Stephanie Lopes-Stuart and Sasha Sivertsen.

2nd team

Lost 0 – 7

A disappointing result from a team that has more potential than this result reflects. The team was unsettled from the start to play against the opposing side who had no goalkeeper. The strikers were not able to take advantage of this situation on numerous occasions and seemed to lack the fight that is needed to keep possession of the ball and dictate the game. Not Wynbergs’ best hour all round.

Hopefully next week will be better.
