On Wednesday 11th March Wynberg’s first and second indoor hockey teams played their last fixtures for the season against Springfield.

The first team’s match started off with great goal from Sasha Siversten. Then in response Springfield scored one back, making the score 1-1. As the game progressed the first team’s defense dropped and Springfield took advantage of this. Despite the¬†efforts of the team to try and beat Springfield they unfortunately lost their match 6-2. Hopefully with their heads in the right space and goals set they will be able to make a great fighting comeback at the Indoor Hockey Interschools’ tournament on the 18th March to be hosted at Herschel.

The second team managed to win their match 3-1! The team played with great intensity from the get go, working hard to achieve their goals. The first goal was scored by a beautiful line up from Kayla Morgan and shot into the goals by Aaminah Domingo. The next goal had a great build up from Aaliyah Dollie and Aaminah Domingo and was scored by Maree Petersen. After the team’s second goal Springfield slipped a goal in but this only made the team fight back harder. They then made use of a short corner opportunity and Maree Petersen flicked the ball at pace into the goals to make the score 3-1. This team has come leaps and bounds since the beginning of the indoor season and have shown their improvement every week. They have had a exciting indoor season and will certainly use all that they have learnt in their future hockey seasons to come.

Both teams plan to implement all that they have learnt this indoor season into their outdoor game and use their pool of talent to hold high the hockey name of Wynberg in the season to come.
