On the 21st of August Wynberg Boys’ High hosted the 2nd annual Interact Induction for the schools who fall under the Wynberg Rotaract District 9350. These schools include Bergvliet, Grassy Park, Norman Henshilwood, Heathfield, Springfield, Wynberg Boys’ High, Wynberg Girls’ High as well as an additional school this year – Rustenberg Girls’ High School.

The atmosphere was buzzing as the old committees were greeting one another – many of us had not seen each other since the Interact Camp in March this year.

The nervous faces of the new committees were the only indication that this was in fact an Induction and not a reunion of old friends. Laura Heathfield (Liason Interact-Rotaract) took to the podium and introduced Vikash Parhboo who explained the differences and similarities between Interact and Rotaract.  Mr Gordon Knight then said a few words on behalf of Rotary and the Induction was underway. Each school’s outgoing President said thanked their working committee and introduced their new committees for the upcoming Interact Year.  Special awards were given to the outgoing Presidents for the service they provided this past year as well as to their respective teachers-in-charge.

We congratulate Lisa Abrahams who is being sponsored by Wynberg Rotaract to go on RYLA, a leadership camp taking place at the end of September. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the school who had won the Interact Shield for the 2011/2012 year. This award goes to the school who is deemed the greatest asset to Wynberg Rotaract over this duration. The winners for the 2011/2012 year were:  Wynberg Girls’ High School.
