On Saturday, 1 March 10 girls represented Wynberg Girls’ High School at the PGSGU Inter-schools Tennis Tournament held at San Souci. It was quite an eventful day and everyone was very excited to play. Our Junior team was very happy that they had entered even though they felt a little unprepared and nervous to participate. A few weeks ago, we all set ourselves a few achievable goals and the Junior players worked hard to ensure they achieved these goals and we are very proud of them for this, especially since many of those players are inexperienced but very keen. They finished 5th overall and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Our senior team couples played some great tennis and gave many of the top schools a run for their money. While we finished 5th this year, all the girls really enjoyed themselves and had a positive and enthusiastic attitude with every game. The team spirit was high which helped us through the tougher games. Our team has just won the South 2nd League but at this tournament, they were pitted against tennis players who all play in the Premier and 1st Leagues. We proved that we can compete with the bug guns and we are looking forward to our new challenge in the First League next season. I am especially proud that Katherine Nicholls and I could finish 4th out of 6 teams in our section, ending above a school with over 8 tennis teams in the league.

Well done to our Wynberg tennis girls, Dana Arries, Katherine Nicholls, Savannah Wiegand, Isobel Evans, Sara Bell, Erin Harris, Kayleigh Henderson, Carin Donson, Laaiqah Sutria and Na’Eela Coleman, who looked great on the day, played excellent tennis and showed so much. #Wynbergpride!
