The Jazz concert that took place on 4 November was successful yet bittersweet! The musicians showed off their fabulous talents to a very appreciative audience and thoroughly enjoyed themselves while doing so. Our girls looked lovely dressed in their signature orange and black outfits and the Matric class of 2014 (so that they were recognised as such) donned sunglasses at one stage much to the delight of the audience.

Besides being an opportunity to showcase Wynberg’s music, the evening was also a farewell to Basil Raad – our jazz band founder and conductor, saxophone and improvisation teacher. All of us have grown to love her as a teacher-friend over the years that she has spent at Wynberg.  She will be leaving at the end of the year to further her studies overseas. The girls showered her with bouquets of flowers – a fitting tribute  to honour her unforgettable contribution to our music department.

All in all it was an evening where we could celebrate our love of music, by making wonderful sounds together .
