Band!” “Yeah!” “Let me show the world, I’ve got a brand new dance” “Band!” “Yeah!”Let me show these bands we’ve got a brand new dance…Watch me!” do do doot doot doot doot dat! (Horns)

That was Sisipho’s introduction to our final song, the showstopper “Uptown Funk”.

Band…singers…action!

The annual Bandslam competition was held on the 20th of January 2015 at the V&A Waterfront. Our Jazz Band put in many hours of rehearsals to produce a spectacular performance that left the audience in awe. The girls were determined to give it their all and impress the spectators, whilst enjoying the recognition of performing on stage and exposing their talents.

The response from the audience was inspiring. As soon as Dimpho Fatman entered the stage, singing “I will survive”, the audience immediately sprung to their feet and danced and sang throughout the entire set.

Backstage was filled with many emotions…nerves, excitement and a bit of nostalgia as this marked the final performance at the Waterfront for us matriculants. However, there is no doubt that as we walked together on stage, we were ready to give it our all with the help of the spirit from our many supporters.

From the band, we would like to convey a huge thank you to all of our supporters. Your spirit, excitement and involvement definitely had a positive effect on the band as we felt more at ease whilst performing. We would also like to thank our conductor, Miss Pearce, for motivating us to work harder and perform with much passion and enjoyment. We really appreciate having such an inspiring leader and mentor amongst us. We would also like to congratulate our five competitor bands who performed on the same evening.

We look forward to the next upcoming events.
