Kirsten Roodman – the making of a champion

As 5-time World Cross Country Champion Doris Heritage said:

“When you put yourself on the line in a race and
expose yourself to the unknown, you learn things
about yourself that are very exciting.”

Quietly, determinedly Kirsten Roodman has been doing just that. And it has been the making of a champion. In March this year, Kirsten was the winner of the u20 1500m race at the Western Province Champs held at the Cape Town Athletics Stadium, was awarded a Gold Medal and was crowned Western Province u20 1500m Champion 2016.

More recently – on 13 August – we heard that she came 4th in her age group at the u20 6km WC Cross Country Champs and, as the top six qualify, she made the Western Province team to run in the Western Cape Champs in Worcester in on 27 August. Kirsten is quiet about her achievements, but it’s clear that she loves it: We wish her well in Worcester as she “seeks new sights on the strength of her feet and the courage of her lungs.”
