This past weekend, the u16A waterpolo team participated in the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Waterpolo Festival in the Knysna harbour. This waterpolo festival was truly unique as it was played in the sea and within the sheltered surrounds of some beautiful yachts. The girls were on the edge of their seats with excitement on the road trip to the event, and when we arrived at Beauchamp Place they were only too happy to discover some home-town friends were staying there too – Wynberg Boys’ and Fish Hoek High School. The team played their hearts out against some tough opposition, and returned home having won 5 out of their 7 matches. The scores were as follows:

Bridgehouse: won 8-3
Oakhill: won 5-1
Fish Hoek: won 6-2
Pinelands: lost 2-0
York: 4-2
Camps Bay: won 10-1
Pearson: lost 6-3

Out of the many goals scored, it was exciting to see Erin Slater score from the half way line, and Dani Graney convert our penalties. Considering the team competed at an U19 festival, we were really proud of our performance and results. The spirit was always kept high by cheering for other participating schools and by doing our special warm-up dance in the waterfront square. On the 3rd day the team took a trip to Buffel’s Bay beach for a lovely afternoon, soaking up the sun. Amongst all the laughter, tears and singing the girls have definitely grown stronger as a team. Well done to Alan Footman (coach) for getting the Funniest Moment award and to Erin Lamoral for being voted Most Valuable Player in the team. A special thank you also goes to our parents for their continued support throughout the season.
