The MSA hosted their annual Iftaar programme on Tuesday the 14 August.

As August is the month of the woman and Ramadaan the month of the Quran, the night’s presentation focused on womens’ values and certain aspects of the Holy Quran.  Our guest speaker, Mrs Bagus-du Toit, principal of Darun-Naim gave an uplifting and spiritual speech on women and establishing their own identity. A recital and translation of the last verses of Surah Tahreem was rendered by Qari’ahs Kareema, Layla and Aqeelah. In these verses The Almighty speaks of four different women.

  • The wives of Noah and Lot who were both married to Prophets but they betrayed their husbands and were told: “Enter the Hell-fire with those who deserved it.”
  • The third woman was the wife of Firoun (pharaoh). She was a believer and said: “My Lord, build a home for me at You in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his works; save me from the transgressing people.”
  • The fourth woman is Mariam (Mary), Mother of Nabi Esa(A.S)(Jesus) who maintained her chastity, and  “… then we blew into her from our spirit. She believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures; she was obedient.”

Kareema, Layla and Aqeelah explained how we can use these women as examples of how, no matter what our circumstances are, we ultimately have the right to choose and how the choices we make will ultimately determine our end point. A rendition of qasidas was performed by the choir of Darun-Naim which captivated the attention of the crowd.

The highlight of the evening was the part focusing on our guests, the children from Beitun –Nur, who received clothes, toiletry packs and snacks from us.

The evening was a great success Algamdulillah and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all, with positive feedback by our parents, guest and staff of WGHS.
