Over recent weeks, Ms Edwards has popped in and out of the school. She is sorely missed when she is not here, but when she is away, it’s because she is representing the country. She has recently returned from Bahrain , having played the Western Union Bahrain International. Michelle & her doubles partner Annari Viljoen were seeded 32 for the tournament. They lost in the semi-finals to an Indian pair in a closely contested match.
However, they have earned 2800 World Ranking points which moved them up 12 positions to 42 on the World ranking list. (In order to qualify for the London Olympics in 2012 they need to be in the top 50, on 1 May 2012, so they are currently on target. Coming up over the next two weeks they will be playing in the Botswana International where Ms Edwards is seeded #1 for the tournament in both the doubles and the mixed events. This tournament is then followed by the SA International (Pretoria) where again Ms Edwards is hoping to improve her doubles ranking to the mid- 30’s. Early next year, the pair will travel to Uganda, Iran and Egypt in order to solidify their London 2012 spot.
Wynberg Girls’ High is fortunate to have such a role model as a teacher and our Head of Service. We congratulate her and wish her well in the forthcoming tournaments
