Open Day – 18 February 2014

On 18 February 2014, an excited bunch of Grade 7s and their parents filed into the Aileen Currie hall to get a little taste of what could be , if they decide to apply to attend our beautiful school.

While guests entered the hall and found their seats they were entertained by a half hour of Jazz performances. Two grade 11 and two grade 12 girls joined the band to sing solos, which included ‘Don’t Know Why‘ (Norah Jones), ‘At Last‘ (Etta James), ‘It’s Only A Paper Moon‘ (Ella Fitzgerald) and ‘Big Spender‘ from the musical Sweet Charity. After this, our drama girls performed some choral verse which explained just a few of the opportunities enjoyed here. This was followed the choir’s singing ‘Hall Of Fame‘ (The Script). A dance choreographed by Jenna Roll was performed by two grade 12 learners. The theme of her piece was the impact of time on the lives of two women. The last two performance items on the program were the Vocal Ensemble and Triplet – a band made up of three Wynberg girls. The Vocal Ensemble performed an a capella version of ‘Stronger‘ by Kelly Clarkson and Triplet performed various classical works.

Mrs Harding then addressed parents about the importance of finding the right school for one’s daughter, and what Wynberg in particular has to offer.

After this session in the Main Hall was concluded, everyone split up into groups to go on tours around the school. These tours were led by the School Council, Matric Leaders and members of the RCL while the Marimba Society played in the Wellington Quad and science experiments were sizzling.

The next Open Day is on 3 March 2014. Tours of the school will be conducted on either side of the session in the hall which will take place at 17:30. Registration starts at 16:00.
