IMG-20170309-WA0004On Wednesday 8 March 2017, seven WGHS flautists were given the opportunity to attend a day’s masterclass hosted by Raffaele Trevisani.

The esteemed Italian flautist offered a two day course at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre, on the 7th and 8th of March, where a handful of flute students from around Cape Town were given individual classes on which they were critiqued. Some of these considerations were performance techniques, tone quality, etc. While we were only observers for the morning and afternoon sessions, many valuable tips were learnt that we can now apply to our own performances.

That evening, Trevisani delighted the concert audience with a 50 minute flute solo, followed by two duets with Miles Roberts, and finishing with the flute choir, which was conducted by Bridget Salonen. Michaela Jacobs was fortunate enough to perform in this concert, along with fellow flautists ranging from the ages of 14 to 80. It was a fantastic experience, and there is little doubt that we all look forward to future masterclasses.
