Pick n Pay “Cape to Cairo” Competiton

The Grade 11 Consumer Studies pupils have been very busy with their Practical Exams. The  pupils were required to make two of their dishes from a 3 course menu based on the dishes of the cuisine from the Cape to Cairo Competition. In this competition, chefs are encouraged to obtain their inspiration from the wealth of untapped culinary traditions and unique dishes in Africa and the extraordinary diversity these traditions offer in terms of ingredients, method of preparation and cooking techniques. They are invited to compile an African fine dining menu ensuring that they pay homage to a different country from our continent with one of them being South African.

The top 10 teams were then challenged to a “Cook-off” of two of their menu dishes, where they were externally adjudicated by Chef Mikayla Duminy. The competition was fierce and the standard was extremely high.  The final 5 teams were selected and have been entered into the Pick n Pay Cape to Cairo competition. The pupils all learnt a lot during the cook-off and have enjoyed the experience.

We wish them all the best with their entries.
