Hockey stickOn Friday 29 July, the Wynberg First Hockey Team faced Reddam on their home turf. Our team came out slowly to begin with,  but soon picked up a few minutes into  the game.   A quick breakaway from mistakes made in the opposition’s outletting, left Amina Williams make a 50-meter run from halfway in the field, all the way to the D and – left unchallenged – she was able to score a cracker opening goal.

A few more set plays went by and the next goal was off a build-up from a long corner in which Sasha Sivertsen sent a ball in at pace to the  circle  and Kayla Morgan got a great touch on for the ball to ricochet into the Reddam net . Wynberg was 2-0 up at half time and early in the second half Reddam made  some aggressive counter attacks but failed to capitalize on any. In the last few minutes, Wynberg got a short corner which  Sasha Sivertsen sent in for Chelsea Manoek to finish on far post.

Overall it was an exciting game with some good play. The girls are to be commended on winning their first game back in the second half of season.

Player of the match goes to Sasha for her incredible marking skills as well as her instrumental passing which resulted in 2 of our goals.
