The Wynberg 2nd team played against Belville on Saturday. It was a very entertaining game and the team played structured hockey to record a good 2-1 victory. Goals were scored by Lauren Gilbert and Zoe Koff.

On Saturday the 6 June the u16a team played Bellville and narrowly lost 1-0. We had numerous opportunities to score but just couldn’t. Bellville caught us on the quick counter attack late in the first half to score the only goal of the game.

The U16B team played against Bellville this past Saturday. The game did not go to plan as Bellville proved to be a strong opposition and no goals were scored which resulted in a draw. The game was learning curve for all the players who hope to come back stronger next week. Unfortunately the match ended a few minutes early due to an injury on the Belville team. We wish their player a speedy recovery!

U 16 E drew 0-0. They played much better than the previous week. They distributed and passed the ball better to each other. Still a lot of bunching, but improvement can definitely be seen.

The U14A hockey team drew 1-1 to Bellville on Saturday 6 June. The team played some good constructive hockey putting together a number of passes setting up some goal scoring opportunities. Eventually Tatum Knipe scored the opening goal of the match after some good team play. Unfortunately in the second half, a quick free hit taken by the opposition left us a bit out of position which resulted in the equaliser being scored. As a team, work still needs to be done in front of the goals converting opportunities into goals. Player of the match was Razaan Green who did a sterling job at the back making some vital tackles to deny the opposition more goals.

Score 0-0

Wynberg Girls welcomed Bellville on Saturday to Astro 2. WGHS played a strong attacking game, clearly dominating Bellville throughout the game. The girls kept Bellville in their own half for most of the game, constantly applying pressure. The few times that Bellville did manage to get through to our half, our defenders managed to deal with it efficiently and effectively. Aurielle in goals also saved a crucial attempt.

However, with all the pressure applied and possession held, Wynberg were unable to finish it off with goals. Many attempts and shots at target were stopped or went past the posts. The girls however used what had been practised during training and from what was learnt from the previous game. They were speaking more with each other, and really playing as a team. It was unfortunate that we weren’t able to win this one.
