1st Team

It was the first of many ‘Friday night lights’ matches on 13 May 2016, when Wynberg took on Durbanville. The girls were excited about this match so that easy points could be collected and that a chance to practice some skills would be allowed. In the first chukka, Wynberg started off well and dominated and let an early goal in leading 1-0. Durbanville put up a very strong fight thereafter and Wynberg seemed to become complacent.
Durbanville didn’t manage to equalize but Wynberg didn’t manage to slot a few more in, despite the many opportunities in the attacking D. The chukkas after the first saw turnover upon turnover for both teams and a lack of acceleration and ‘trigger’ movements resulted in Wynberg’s not being able to make proper connections within the circle.

At the end of the day, a win is a win which is 3 more points in the bag. The girls should still be proud of themselves for the result.

On Friday 13 May, the u16A Hockey Team played against Durbanville. It was an exciting sunset match with lots of support from Wynberg. The girls produced great attacking skills and were able to score. Unfortunately Durbanville scored an equalizer on counter-attack with no Defence to cover. The final score was 1-1. Well done to Kelsey Lodewyk for scoring, and Michelle Boshoff who was the player of the match.

U14B Durbanville
This week we played Durbanville. We won 4 – 0. The goals we scored by Jordan Louis, Sweva Wiid and Jade Yardin. Jordan scored two of the goals, Sweva scored one goal and Jade scored another goal. With a 1-0 lead in the first half, the girls really picked up their game, scoring another 3 goals in the second half. We really pulled together as a team and I hope we can see more of this adaptability to change in the games to come.

On Friday 13 May the U14A hockey team beat Durbanville 3-0. Although the score implies an easy game, it was anything but – the team had to work hard for this win. The first half was evenly contested and we struggled to adapt to the style of play of the opposition. Well into the first half Laretia Espach scored a stunning back sticks goal which really gave the team the lift they needed. In the second half we dominated a bit more and were eventually rewarded with a well worked goal scored by Sophie Hartgers. Close to the end of the game a perfect cross from Rabecca Rooy saw Alyssa Isaacs deflecting the ball into the goals making the final score 3-0.
