indoor hockeyOn Wednesday, 18 February Wynberg showed some great indoor hockey skills and talent when playing their matches. The first and second teams played against Rustenburg, and the third team played against Fish Hoek’s first team.

The 1st team played brilliant hockey and pulled through in this well-anticipated match, as Rustenburg and Wynberg are big rivals. The match started off with solid passes from Stephanie Lopes Stuart and Jamie Southgate. As the Wynberg team took advantage of the weak defense, they managed to score an early goal to secure the lead. Shortly after this Wynberg got a short corner, making the score 2-0. Stephanie Lopes Stuart scored a beautiful goal. There were some great saves from Sasha Sivertsen who put her body on the line at the short corner, as Valeshka Harkhu kept the goals clear in the last part of the match. The final score left Wynberg in the lead, beating Rustenburg 3-1.

The 2nd team match was a great improvement from last week as they came out on top of their game and played great hockey. They are learning to play well together and get into the right spaces at the right time. Working together as a team with determination, hard work and communication they managed to beat Rustenburg 4-0. The goals were scored by Tamsyn Gaynor, Chelsea Manoek and Maree Petersen and could not have been scored without the help from the entire team, all of whom played their part to set the goals up and get the ball into the right spaces.

The 3rd team played against Fish Hoek’s 1st team. It was a very competitive game and Wynberg worked hard with a strong defense and tried their best to score. Minutes into the game Aaliah Dollie got hit in the throat in a short corner, but recovered quickly and managed to get back in the game. She showed great courage. In the second half, Fish Hoek scored two goals making the end result 2-0 to Fish Hoek. It was a good game for both teams and Wynberg is proud of the third team’s effort.
