indoor hockey1st team Indoor hockey match vs Westerford

The Wynberg team came out onto the court hyped up and full of energy for the match against Westerford, a team they were told not to underestimate because the game can turn around in seconds! Wynberg opened up their scoring sheet early with a great pass from Chelsea Manoek to Jamie Southgate who saw Sasha Sivertsen in a goal scoring position, passed it to her and Sasha slotted it in the bottom left corner, textbook hockey. There were a few lapses in concentration which resulted in a goal nearly being scored by Westerford, but the Wynberg goal keeper, Chelsea van der Berg made a brilliant save to keep the team in the game. The Wynberg team had great build up play between the two Wynberg defenders, Chelsea Manoek and Maree Petersen feeding balls through to their strikers. Amina Williams took advantage of these passes and created a short corner for her team, the push out when straight to Jamie Southgate who then flicked it into the bottom right corner of the goals. The Westerford team managed to create short corners against the Wynberg team, but had a problem because Sasha made two amazing saves as the first wave runner. Westerford was able to score two goals, but they did not come easy. In the last few minutes of the game the Wynberg team had great build up play, this time the ball was transferred from one side of the court to another opening up the spaces for goal scoring opportunities. Sasha and Jamie connected up to score Wynberg’s third goal. The final score was 3-2 in favour of Wynberg.

It was a great game and the girls thoroughly enjoyed it, keep up the good work!
