On Friday 9 September the U14A hockey team took part in the PGSGU Inter-Schools hockey tournament. First up was Rustenburg where the team played well to win 1-0. The goal was scored by Alyssa Isaacs early in the game and although we had other opportunities the score stayed at 1-0. Against Springfield the team continued to play well in a game that was fought predominantly in the mid field. In the last five minutes of the match an excellent cross from Laretia Espach was eventually put in by Jordan Louis on the left post. The match ended 1-0 to Wynberg. The match against Herschel saw us doing a lot of defending and some good team defence coupled with some excellent saves by the goal keeper, Grace Cochrane kept us in the match. The final score ended 0-0. The final match of the night saw us coming up against an unbeaten St Cyprian’s Team. The basic message for the game – “Girls, if we win this game, we win inter-schools. The result is in your hands.”

Once again the team put up a resilient defence and also created some scoring opportunities. About 3 minutes from the end, another cross from the right was eventually put away by Rabecca Rooy after the goal keeper had made one or two saves. Final result, 1-0 to Wynberg. Much excitement followed the match –  it is a memory that will always be savoured. Well done to the U14A hockey team and Ms Davids, their coach, on an excellent result. The Wynberg family is very proud of you all.
