waterpolo1The U14A’s played the first match against Reddam, on Thursday 14 February. It was a challenging game with the wind blowing the ball different directions, but the girls had fun together, and the support from the Wynberg parents and learners was incredible! The score was 5-1 to Reddam. Captain, Almaas Bailey, led from the front and scored the goal her team. The girls are training hard and look forward to the next game as they work to improve their skills and strengthen their team.

Our u16As were always going to be up against it, and the weather conditions didn’t help at all. They tried to implement their game plan, but Reddam countered all attacks and were just too strong for us. This was not surprising considering that they are one of the top Waterpolo schools in the country. Layla Adams and Jenna Mentoor were strong on defense, and worked well together. Captain Jessica Hall compliments her team as they battled it out without many subs.

The next game for the U16A team was against u15A Reddam – another powerful oppoent.. The girls went into it with high spirits and kept the score down to only one goal against at the end of the first chukka. Layla Adams was strong again on defense, while Jade Yardin made good drives and our newly-recruited goalie, Lara Mills had an exceptional game. The team needed to work on awareness and communication and the girls are aware that they still have a lot of work ahead of them.

The U19Bs also had some tough pre-tour opposition in very windy conditions. Emily Hansen was player of the game as her defence was amazing and she was more then happy to take up different positions throughout the game. The team worked hard despite being outplayed in a number of aspects. We are sure this experience will make them stronger when they tour to Knysna.
