“Simply Acoustic”- a phenomenal evening of music

On Friday 1st November, musicians from both Wynberg Boys’ High  and Wynberg Girls’ High School  performed at the John Baxter Amphitheatre at the boys’ school. The evening began at 17:00 and ended just before 19:00. Luckily, the weather was kind to us and we were able to keep the concert in the outdoor theatre as planned.

Although the audience was smaller than expected, the crowd was encouraging and lively throughout the performance. The variety of acoustic tunes and different performers kept those in the audience captivated and resulted in rave revues at the end of the evening.

Although stressful for me as well as for Kyle Robbertze (The Head of Culture at Wynberg Boys’ High), who put the show together, the picnic concert was definitely rewarding and provided us with the chance to give our fellow students, teachers, friends and families the chance to enjoy a free, relaxing evening of acoustic music.

The program consisted of bands such as Triplet, a group of 3 classical musicians playing violin, clarinet and flute; Topdeck, our very own singing duo, Simone Daniels and Shana-Joy Jansen; David and Jesse; a mixed acapella group; as well as many other solo artists and other newly formed bands. This program provided for a different audience from our usual music concerts, as well as for an opportunity for many pupils unknown for their musical abilities to perform.

We hope to be able to put together another concert similar to this in the future, hopefully with a larger audience, but with the same energy, enthusiasm and clear passion from all of the performers. We’d like to thank both schools for their support in enabling us to put this concert together.
