On 20 July, WGHS played both netball and hockey matches against a  touring team from Yorkshire, Wakefield Girls’ High School.
The U16 netball match took place first, followed by the hockey. Unfortunately it was raining so the girls had to play in the gym. Despite little practice because we were officially on holiday, the netball girls played convincingly and claimed victory over their opponents with a final score of 43-35 to WGHS. However, the score was 10-10 at the end of the first quarter and only near the latter half of the second quarter did WGHS truly begin to take the lead. Everyone demonstrated great determination and the indoor netball rules gave the match an exciting twist. Overall, there was a good spirit and everybody enjoyed themselves.
A WGHS combined hockey side then played against Wakefield later in the morning. Despite the holiday break, the girls were keen and excited to get going. Wynberg played positively during the first half and were leading 4-0 at half time. The girls really tried to use their opportunities and this resulted in another 5 great goals being scored during the second half. The final score was 9-0 to Wynberg. It was a pleasing performance and everyone enjoyed seeing their teammates during the holidays. It was a fun-filled and enjoyable morning for all the girls and served as a relaxed introduction for the second half of the winter sport season.
