On Friday the 1st of May, otherwise known as Labour Day, the 1st team hockey girls were hard at work, playing the sport that they love. The team played against DF Malan in the second round of the Spar Western Cape Hockey Knock-out Tournament at Rhenish.

In the first half of the game they just managed to fight off the opposition and did well but they picked up their socks completely from the last ten minutes of the first half. The hockey was exciting to watch and the team certainly showed DF Malan what they were made of. Congratulations must go out to the goalkeeper, Valeshka Harku who was an ever-steady presence in the goals and blocked many shots. The team implemented all of the strategies and player roles that they learnt on tour and certainly made them work to their advantage.

In the second half of the match Wynberg totally dominated and scored their goals in this half. The final score of the match was 2-0 to Wynberg. Both goals stemmed from great timing and coordination from the goal scorers. They were scored by Sasha Sivertsen and Jenna Grey respectively. Overall, the team played exceptionally well and each player contributed to the well-deserved win by sticking to their roles and working well as a team.

The team will now, as a result of winning this match go through to the final round of this tournament to be held in August. They will be playing against Paarl Gym in these finals, which they will be eagerly preparing for.
